If you asked me a week ago what Transitional Style Decorating was I wouldn’t have had a clue, but when I asked my mom to describe the style of her Christmas decorating the first word she used to describe it was “transitional.” I, of course, looked it up and after reading the definition she was absolutely right (I don’t know why she wouldn’t be, she IS the interior decorator after all) her decorating style is transitional! For all of us who don’t know what that means here’s a crash course: “Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and modern furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics. The result is an elegant, enduring design that is both comfortable and classic.”
Last week we talked about Christmas decorating in small spaces and today my mom is taking over to share her story about decorating her small space. She just finished renovating her home so she can enjoy entertaining with out being separated from her guests. They opened up the wall between the kitchen and the living room, added a counter with stools so there is more seating and gained an open plan. But now they have no room for a Christmas tree and she will not have a Christmas without one. Here is how she got creative and scaled down her Christmas decor all while still creating the perfect atmosphere to get you in the Holiday spirit!
“Stockings were hung by the chimney with care…” and whether or not you have a chimney, festive holiday stockings are a must for any Christmas set up! Switch out your old stockings for something new that tie your decorating theme together. Wool knit stockings in fun patterns like these go with the over transitional aesthetic of this look. Adding natural touches like pine cones, tree trimmings and firewood complete this whole look!
I hope these Transitional Christmas Living Room Decorations have inspired you to start decorating your home if you haven’t done so yet. You don’t need a lot of space to create a beautiful Holiday set-up, and if you pick a theme or decoration style to guide your decorating the whole look will come together even better!
