Color: The Color Wheel is a great tool to help you navigate color combinations. (Don’t miss past posts on monochromatic, complimentary & triad color schemes)
If you find the color wheel difficult to use than find an object, such as a pillow, to help you with color inspiration.
Here we see how color can be used to update a piece of furniture, it’s also an easy way to add that pop of color to a room (especially if you’re renting and can’t paint the walls!). This piece was painted using a new line of paint inspired by OPI Nail Lacquer. This is shade is Miami Beat from the OPI Color Palette by Clark+Kensington available at ACE hardware stores nationally.

Layering: So important & easier than you think! Anchor the room with an area rug, pull a color from the rug for the wall & ceiling color, arrange furniture, hang window coverings, add lighting & lastly accessorize!
Here you can see the different layers – wallpaper, mirror, furniture than they pull it together with different size and patterned pillows, then they use two different style tables & added accessories.

Accessorize: This can pull a room together. After the room has all the necessary pieces and a function floor plan it’s time to add all the interesting touches…art work, family photos, mirrors, pillows, throws/blankets, candles, baskets, books, the ideas are endless.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again – a room doesn’t get pulled together in one day. Start with the basic needs and then take your time finding those special items to pull the room together.
