Guys I am SO incredibly excited to be able to share my absolutely FAVORITE resort in New York with you today! I’ve been traveling to The Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY on Lake George for well over 10 years with my family and I can confidently say that it is the one place that I will never ever get sick of visiting.
A little bit of backstory on this historic hotel…The Sagamore Resort is secluded on a private 70-acre island just 60 miles north of Albany in Bolton Landing, NY. And has hosted families, celebrities and dignitaries alike with their signature hospitality established over a century ago! Located in the heart of the Adirondacks, the Sagamore’s historic property offers elegant lakeside accommodations, award-winning dining, an 18-hole gold course and commitment to creating remarkable guest experiences every day.
Instead of doing one of my traditional Travel Guides where I give you a day by day itinerary, I’m instead sharing 5 reasons to visit The Sagamore Resort this summer! Mostly because when you visit The Sagamore you’re truly on vacation. And depending on who you’re visiting with and what your ideal trip looks like your stay will be different!
5 Reasons to Visit The Sagamore Resort on Lake George, NY this Summer
1. The Entire Resort – Main Hotel, Lodges, Property, etc. – is STUNNING!
It’s no surprise that The Sagamore Resort was voted in the Top 25 Resorts in the Northeast by Condé Nast Traveler because it is TRULY one of the best, if not THE BEST resort I’ve ever stayed at in my many many years of traveling.
There are 375 rooms on the property. 150 in the Historic Main Hotel & 222 condo-style lodges including 111 spacious suites with kitchenettes, fireplaces and terraces. Over the years I’ve stayed in both the main hotel and the lodges, like we did for this trip. And I can honestly say that every room I’ve stayed in has been amazing. The condo-style lodges are ideal for families or groups of friends traveling together. And are usually my first choice for where to stay!
The property also features an 18-hole golf course, full service spa & salon, 5 outdoor tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a 10,000 sf REC center and SO SO much more!
I appreciate that while the resort itself is very large, it’s situated perfectly. And it’s not difficult to get from area to area. I’ve been to resorts in the past where it takes you your entire trip to figure out where everything. The Sagamore isn’t like that. The rest of your party is never too far away from you and exploring the property is easy.
2. The Water is the CLEAREST
If you know me then you know that I am NOT an outdoorsy person at all. And I definitely wouldn’t be on the top of the list of people that you think would swim in a lake. But the water in Lake George at the Sagamore is literally the clearest, cleanest water ever!
Don’t get me wrong both pools – indoor & outdoor – at The Sagamore are dreamy. But there’s just something about sitting by the lake and watching the boats go by that makes you truly fall in love with the lake life.
3. The FOOD!
If you didn’t think that FOOD would be one of the 5 reasons to visit The Sagamore Resort then you don’t know me very well. When I plan a vacation food is usually on the top of the list of “things to do”!
The Sagamore Resort features eight dining venues including some of the most celebrated restaurants on Lake George. We didn’t get to visit all 8 while we were there, but everything we did each was beyond delicious!
La Bella Vita features authentic Italian delicacies. The Pavilion is where to go for lakeside dining. The Splash Bar & The LakeHouse make the best summer drinks and the buffet breakfast is NOT to be missed!!
Dinner reservations at the property restaurants book up fast. So I suggest making reservations in advance especially if you’re traveling with a group!

4. It’s the perfect distance from the New York Tri-state Area
The Sagamore Resort is just over 3 hours from Westchester and the ride is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend avoiding taking I-87 the entire way which usually has traffic on it, in favor of taking the Taconic State Parkway up to Albany and hopping on I-87 there.
So many of you guys have requested recommendations for road trips you can take this Summer since you’re ready to go on a vacation, but maybe not ready to get on a plane yet and The Sagamore is the PERFECT destination!
5. Whether you’re vacationing with a group of 10 or 2, with families or adults only there is something for everyone to do.
The Sagamore truly is a year-round Lake George resort ideal for family vacations, weekend getaways and one-of-a-kind events. Personally I’ve visited The Sagamore with 20 family members including lots of kids. With my immediate family and with adult friends and I can honestly say that the trip was perfect every single time! I’ve traveled A LOT in my lifetime and there are very few places and resorts that I can say that about.
I also appreciate that while The Sagamore Resort is truly a family friendly resort, you don’t need to be visiting with a family or kids to enjoy it. Despite the amount of kids on the property it’s never been hard to escape for a little bit of relaxation. The Spa is like no other, the adults only deck with lounge chairs is secluded and I love the other seating areas around the resort that make it easy to find a place to to just relax.
A few things we didn’t get to do while we were there, but I highly recommend:
- Venture into the town of Bolton Landing. There’s lots of cute shops, restaurants and of course Ben & Jerry’s.
- Rent a boat and go tubing on the lake! Concierge can arrange a boat rental for you, but book one as soon as you can especially if you’re visiting on a holiday week because they book up fast.
- Take a cruise on The Morgan – a replica of a 19th century touring vessel that offers guests of The Sagamore a Lake George boat tour that makes for an unforgettable experience on the water. It’s approximately 1.5 hours long and is included with your stay at the resort.
