It’s no secret that if I’m going on vacation then I’m going to document it! Now don’t get me wrong I’ve gone on my share of unplugged vacations, but that doesn’t mean I’m not snapping photos the whole time (I’m just choosing to not share them). My apartment (and my mom’s house) is filled with photos I’ve taken on my travels. I used to bring my DSLR with me (and still do sometimes), but it’s HEAVY AS FUCK (especially with my Sigma 35mm lens attached to it) and doesn’t really fit into any bags easily. And while the photos I take with my DSLR come out great, it’s hard to give that complex camera to someone else and ask them to snap a quick photo of you.
When I travel with other blogger friends it’s easy to get a great shot with my DSLR, but since the majority of my traveling is done with friends and family members with little to no camera knowledge it just doesn’t make sense to bring it with me. I don’t want to spend 20 minutes explaining to someone how to use my camera and then another 20 minutes taking 300 photos just to get a few that look okay. I want to spend less than 5 minutes taking a couple amazing, in focus photos and then go back to enjoying my vacation.
Every outfit photo I took on my latest trip to Punta Cana took no longer than 5 minutes to take and all I did to set up the shot was pick a location with good lighting, take one of two test shots and then handed my camera over to whichever family member I suckered into snapping my pics.
So I know you’re dying to know what I think the best camera to take on vacation is now…
((…you’ll just have to scroll down to find out))
The Sony Alpha A6000 is the absolute BEST camera to take on vacation! Jen introduced me to it 3 years ago on our trip to Lexington, Kentucky and the second I got home from that trip I ordered it! The camera itself is under $500, it’s super lightweight and compact and it’s VERY easy to use! Once you adjust quickly adjust the settings it’s very easy to just “point and shoot” and get a great photo. And one of the best parts is that it has WiFi built in so that your photos can instantly be sent to your phone after you take them so you can post in real time! While the zoom stock lens that comes with this camera is great for landscape photos and when you want to background really crisp, I highly suggest the Sony 35mm Prime Fixed Lens. If you’re shooting outfits or really anything where you’re looking to get a great blurred background then you definitely want a lens with a low f-stop. This will help you get great photos in low light (We took this shot just as the sun was setting, but it came out crisp and clear because of this lens!)
Aside from all the photos I took in Punta Cana, check out more photos I’ve take with this camera:
Disney & Universal Orlando
East Hampton
Maui
