Let me give you a little back story on this Mannequin Christmas Tree. I’ve been pinning these christmas tree dresses for YEARS and every year I say to myself I’m going to do it and every year I don’t. Well right before our annual Holiday Brunch I decided this was the year I was going to dress up my dress form mannequin for Christmas. I called my dad and asked if he could cut me some evergreen branches from the trees in his backyard and I went to Michaels to get the rest of the supplies. I fully intended for this to be a disaster and for me to give up without finishing (that’s why I didn’t take step-by-step photos), but it was actually the easiest thing EVER to create.
So for now enjoy photos of the prettiest and easiest Christmas decoration that you still have plenty of time to DIY for your own house. Scroll down for detailed instructions along with everything you need to make your mannequin Christmas tree and I promise next year I’ll do step-by-step photos!
What you’ll need to make your mannequin christmas tree:
- Evergreen Scraps (you can cut these down from trees in your yard or go to a Christmas tree farm and ask for scraps)
- Dress Form Mannequin
- Floral Pins
- Burlap (or any large piece of fabric)
- Ribbon
Instructions:
- One by one attached each evergreen branch to your dress form using the floral pins. I started with the longer pieces and added shorter pieces on top. Don’t worry too much about the shape you can trim it once it’s all done. Each branch only needs one floral pin, they are very secure once they are pushed into the foam of your form.
- Take a large piece of burlap and wrap the top portion of your mannequin like a shawl to conceal the top of the branches. Secure it into place with floral pins.
- Wrap ribbon around the waist over the burlap, secure with floral pins. Add a ribbon bow, or brooch.
- Add your own personal touch! I added a pearl cluster necklace, but you can also add string Christmas lights or a hat or flowers!
*The one mistake I made while creating my Mannequin Christmas Tree was that I made it WAY too early in the season and I already had to take it apart because the branches were dying and the pine needles were falling everywhere and making a mess. Next year I’m going to make it way closer to the actual holiday.ย
But that just means that if you want to make this for yourself before Christmas you ABSOLUTELY have time to do it! I swear once you have all the supplies, the whole process takes about 15 minutes!
Happy DIYing!
