After getting so many questions and compliments about the flower crown I made for Megan’s baby shower a couple weeks ago I figured I would do a DIY How to Make a Flower Crown post so I can show you exactly how easy it is to make one of these yourself! Full disclosure, this is only the second time I’ve ever made one (Megan’s was the first) and I wasn’t entirely sure how it would go, but I’m here to tell you and show you that it couldn’t be easier! When I say this is a SUPER easy flower crown tutorial I mean it!
With festive season upon us this is the perfect time to brush up on your flower crown making skills and after learning how to make a flower crown with this tutorial you’ll be a pro in no time. I actually read an article recently that said flower crowns were “out” this festival season, but let’s be serious I’m never one to really follow trends, and when your flower crown is this epic it doesn’t matter if it’s “in” or “out”.
Scroll through for my step by step photo tutorial and at the end I’ve put together a fun graphic in case you want to pin this for later!
What you’ll need:
–Floral Tape
–Floral Wire
–Scissors
-Flowers! (I got 2 bouquets from Trader Joe’s to make this)
Step 1:
Create a crown with the floral wire. Make it so it fit comfortably on your head. I wrap the wire around twice and twist the strands together.
Step 2:
Wrap the wire crown in floral tape. This tape isn’t the stickiest, but I’ve found that if you warm it up with your hands and press down on the ends it sticks perfectly.
Step 3:
Pick your first flower, I always start with something bigger, and cut the stem about 3 inches long. Then take the floral tape and wrap the stem to the crown. I wrap each flower stem about 1 1/2 inches and cut the excess.
Step 4:
Repeat with the next flower. I like to alternate between larger flowers and small more dainty flowers.
Step 5:
Repeat until the entire crown is complete! I found that I had to put the crown on my head every so often to make sure it wasn’t too heavy and so that I was evenly distributing the weight of the flowers.
That’s is! 5 extremely easy steps between you and the most epic festival style or bridal shower or baby shower flower crown. If it was up to me I’d be wearing one of these every day.
If you’re headed to Coachella or Firefly or Bonnaroo, you’re definitely going to want to try out this flower crown tutorial for yourself!
