Today is ALL about MOM JEANS! More specifically the best mom jeans for pear shape mid size girls like myself!
I’ve tried a LOT of mom jeans on – A LOT A LOT – and I’ve lived to share it! Jeans are a wild item of clothing – one day they fit one day they don’t – one wash in a particular style fits, another one doesn’t. They literally have a mind of their own and it’s SO hard to shop for them (especially with a pear shape body…hello waist gap) so I thought I’d break it down as best as possible and let you know exactly which pairs are currently working for me and why AND which pairs don’t.
The Best Mom Jeans for Pear Shape Mid Size Bodies
But first, here are a few things to pay attention to when shopping for Mom jeans:
- The material of the denim – What’s the percentage of cotton? Polyester? Elastane? This makes a HUGE difference in how they will fit on you. I also suggest double-checking the make-up even if you’re just buying the same pair of jeans you already have, but in a different wash or color. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been shopping for jeans, found a perfect pair, ordered them in another color and they fit completely different because I didn’t pay attention to the materials!
- Try not to be discouraged by size – In this post I’m sharing 5 pairs of mom jeans and I’m wearing THREE different sizes. I still struggle with the size element of shopping and having to size up, but sizing across brands (and even within the same brand) is SO inconsistent that “not being discouraged by a number” is something I have to remind myself daily. I will always be bottom-heavy no matter what size I am and while embracing my natural curves is not something I’ve accepted overnight like I truly have now.
American Eagle Ripped Mom Jean with Comfort Stretch Waistband
- $49.99 – Shop them HERE
- Shown here in “Cool Classic” with Comfort Stretch Waistband
- 95% Cotton & 5% Polyester
- Rise 11.75″
- Leg Opening 13.5″
- I’m wearing a size 12 Regular. Regular is referring to the inseam. These are also available in X-Short, Short, Long & X-Long.
- These have the Comfort Stretch Waistband which is a GAMECHANGER for these mom jeans. This gives the waist the stretch it needs while being able to keep the rest of the jeans more rigid.

- These high rise jeans are hands down the BEST fitting mom jeans I own and I think once you scroll through all the photos you’ll see they look the best too!
American Eagle Ripped Mom Jean with Comfort Stretch Waistband
- $49.99 – Shop them HERE
- Shown here in “Coldwater Rinse”
- 100% Cotton
- Rise 11.75″
- Leg Opening 13.5″
- I’m wearing a size 12 Regular. These are also available in X-Short, Short, Long & X-Long inseams.
- These also have the Comfort Stretch Waist Band (same as the jeans above), BUT they are 100% cotton and have no stretch in the hips which I desperately need! Because there is no stretch anywhere else the waist on these gaps and they aren’t nearly as comfortable has the above pair. (Check out this video of how they fit)

American Eagle Ripped Mom Jeans
- $49.99 – Shop them HERE
- Shown here in “Cool Classic” (I think)
- 95% Cotton 5% Polyester (but these have NO STRETCH)
- Rise 11.75″
- Leg Opening 12.75″
- I’m wearing a size 12 Regular. These are also available in X-Short, Short, Long & X-Long inseams.
- They are WAYYYYY too tight now, I don’t wear these anymore, but wanted to show you them for reference and so that you can see that even though these are the same pair of jeans as the above 2 they have a different make-up and NO stretch so ultimately fit completely different!

H&M Mom High Ankle Jeans
- Only $29.99 – Shop them HERE
- Shown here in “Light Blue”, but I also have “Light Denim Blue/Washed”
- 98% Cotton & 2% Elastane
- High Waist (doesn’t have exact rise on site)
- Leg Opening on the smaller side. I would say around 12 inches if I had to guess.
- I’m wearing a size 8. But I recently ordered another pair and the 8 were too small. So I don’t know
- These are VERY comfortable to wear thanks to the washed stretch denim.
- Cotton content is partly recycled!
- See me wearing these – HERE, HERE & HERE
- On me these definitely look more like straight leg jeans, but as you can see by the model, these fit women with different body types very differently.
Abercrombie & Fitch Curve Love High Rise Mom Jean
- $99 – Shop them HERE (but I don’t think they’re worth this price, try and buy them on sale)
- Shown here in a dark wash called “Dark Destroy”
- 99% Cotton & 1% Elastane
- Rise 11.25″
- Leg Opening 13″
- I’m wearing a size 30R. R standing for Regular Inseam, but also available in Short & Long. I do wish these were slightly longer so maybe I need the Long inseam.
- One of the biggest complaints from women with a pear shape figure is that jeans never fit it both the hips and waist, but Abercrombie seems to have fixed this problem with their Curve Love line. All the denim in this line feature an additional 2 inches through the hip and thigh from their classic fit denim.
- I love the fit on the legs of this vintage denim, it has the perfect amount of stretch and they’re very comfortable, but they’re a little loose around my crotch and it makes them look weird sometimes. I think I’m actually going to try the Classic Fit next.

Now just because I may have professed my love for mom jeans in this post that doesn’t mean that I don’t wear skinny jeans, stretchy jeans, boot cut jeans, flare jeans or wide legged jeans, it just means that I tend to grab mom jeans over any other style! But I will tell you, the 1 thing I look for in any type of denim that I buy no matter what the leg cut is that they HAVE TO BE HIGH RISE JEANS. As a millennial that lives through the low rise jean era of the early 2000s I can promise you that I will never put a low rise jean on my body again!
