Did you know that I started blogging 8 years ago? EIGHT! That might as well be an eternity at this point. In 2010, blogging wasn’t a career, it wasn’t a way to make a living, it was a hobby. And truly I started blogging as a hobby, I honestly never thought that I’d still be doing it 8 years later and I definitely didn’t think that the blogging industry as a whole was going to blow up. If you would’ve told me when I first started that in just a few short years the blogging industry and social media as a whole would take over I don’t think I would’ve believed you.
But in 2018, thanks to Instagram, blogging has kinda taken a back seat. New “bloggers” are calling themselves influencers because a majority of them don’t actually have blogs. And I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong that, but posting pretty (and super posed) photos of myself on a social media app just isn’t something I want to devote a ton of time to. Being a blogger and being an influencer are 100% different! Can you be both a blogger and an influencer? Absolutely…but you can also be just one or the other. Ultimately I consider myself a blogger not an influencer because I blog about my life and style and beauty and all things in between. This blog is a resource for learning and information and entertainment and inspiration. And here’s the thing, other people might consider me an influencer as I guess I do have an influence over people, it’s just not something I would call myself.
I use my social media accounts as an avenue to get people to my blog. I share things on Instagram and Twitter and Facebook and Pinterest to promote myself, my blog and new content. Up until recently that was good enough, but now that Instagram has become the powerhouse that it is, I’ve had to tweak my process a little. And as you can tell probably by the shortage of blog posts this year I’ve clearly spent way too much time on other things, like Instagram, instead of focusing a majority of my energy on my blog like I used to!
Well that changes today. Like the title of this post says, ultimately I consider myself a blogger not an influencer, and I need to get back to putting out more content on my blog and stop worrying about how I’m losing hundreds of followers on Instagram every week. Because honestly…who cares! Even though I know most people don’t spend as much time reading blogs as they used I’m still going to keep doing what I do. I’m here to inform and entertain and inspire you and I hope I can keep doing that for a long time to come.
