There’s nothing worse than dry skin in the winter! When you live in New York combating dry winter skin is basically a full time job, a full time job that I fail at every year because come January I always end up with dry flaky skin and chapped lips. But this year I’m teaming up with Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant to share my Winter Skincare Survival Tips so that come spring we’ll all have beautiful hydrated skin that’s ready to be shown off!
These 4 winter skincare survival tips may seem obvious, but essential in combating dry winter skin!
Care for your Underarms
Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba, reminds you not to forget about your underarms. The delicate skin under your arm is often forgotten when it comes to skincare routine, but it’s just as important if not more important than any other areas of skin on your body. Keeping your underarms hydrated and protected with the right antiperspirant, like Dove Advanced Care, will help alleviate irritation and leave your skin softer and smoother, plus it provides 48 hour wetness protection!
Use Hydrating Face Masks
My normal skincare routine just doesn’t cut it in the Winter when the temperatures dip below freezing so I compensate with weekly hydrating face masks. My skin can often feel raw and look flaky from harsh winter weather, and a hydrating face mask leaves my skin plump and glowing. Whether you decide to go with a sheet mask, a wash off mask, a peel off formula or even a DIY I guarantee adding this to your winter skincare routine will make a huge difference.
Drink Plenty of Water
This might seem like an obvious skincare tip, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t actually drink enough water, especially in the colder months. In the summer it’s easier to get the recommended amount of water for most people because they drink water to cool their body down, but in the winter drinking water often slips the mind. I suggest getting a water bottle with time notches to keep you accountable and on track. I also love adding lemons, limes and other fruit to my water. Not only does drinking water have amazing skincare benefits like improving skin complexion, but it also increases energy, flushes out toxins and much more. In other words…drink up!
Don’t Neglect the Skin You Don’t See
It is SO easy to neglect the skin you don’t see in the cold weather. I know I’m much more likely to skip moisturizing my legs, feet and elbows (which get so dry), because I know they’ll be hiding behind multiple layers of clothing and no one is going to see them. I’m vowing this year to moisturize my entire body every time I get out of the shower at night and more times throughout the day. I also keep a bottle of moisturizer next to my bed and another in my desk at work so I have no excuse not to hydrate as it feels necessary. At the rate I’m going my legs and feet will definitely be ready for dress and sandal weather when it warms up.
So are your Winter Skincare Survival tips similar to mine? I’m vowing to stick to these 4 all season long! If you have another tip make sure to leave me a comment and let me know so I can add it to my routine!
