Like I mentioned in my travel guide, our girls trip to Charleston was pretty spontaneous! Megan and I had been trying to plan something for what seemed like months and finally after many failed attempts at booking something the stars finally aligned and we found ourselves on a plane to South Carolina, to a city both of us were dying to visit! Traveling with friends is my favorite way to travel, but when you’re in your 30s and you’re struggling to find that work/life/family balance it’s extra hard to find time to spend with your friends and even harder to book a trip with them!
I’m really lucky to have a few great groups of girlfriends and while I haven’t gotten a chance to travel with all of them, the few trips I’ve been on over the past few years have been the most memorable of my life! While I may be at an age where taking one might not be a necessity I’m here to share 5 reasons why you should absolutely try to make a girls trip in your 30s happen!
5 Reasons to Take a Girls Trip in your 30s
1. For your own well being
Sometimes you just need a little bit of time away from your husband/kids/boyfriend/girlfriend and there’s nothing wrong with that! Of course you love spending time with them, but there’s nothing wrong with spending a few days away with your friends especially in your 30s when everyone’s lives seem to be extra busy. Chances are you probably don’t take enough time our of your schedule for yourself and I’m sure it’s catching up with you. Think of a girls trip as a way to recharge and have a little fun that your body so desperately needs!
2. Everyone needs some women bonding time
Men are great and all, but they just don’t “get it” sometimes! Sometimes you just need a good venting session and if that venting session just happens to include of a change or scenery then so be it! Booking a girls trip in your 30s with a heavy dose of bonding time can be serious cathartic and there’s a high chance you’ll go home feeling like a new person.
3. Because sometimes you just need each other
Ask yourself? When was the last time you saw your friends outside of a special occasion? Of course you all get together for weddings and try to always celebrate birthdays, but since when did you become those friends that need a reason to do things! Sometimes you just need your girlfriends and a group text or a phone call just isn’t going to cut it.
4. To get dressed up
Think about it…when was the last time you got dressed up and had a great meal out? Can’t remember? Time to book a trip with your friends! Pack your fanciest shoes and think about how amazing it’s going to feel to not have to worry about skipping out on dessert because you have to get home and relieve the babysitter!
5. Because you’re never too old for a sleepover!
And let’s be serious a girls trip is basically just a glorified sleepover! You get to stay up late, gossip, eat too many snacks and not have to worry about anyone else but yourself! Soma Intimates sent Megan and I some adorable PJs for our girls trip, because lets be serious…the only thing better than a girls trip, is a girls trip with matching pajamas!
I’ve actually been a Soma fan for a LONG time (they’re pretty much the only bras I’ll wear), but I had never tried their sleepwear until this trip and now that I have I’m not quite sure I can go back to wearing any other pajamas I own (I’m even wearing this pair as I type this). First off, they are the SOFTEST pajamas I’ve ever owned, which makes them insanely comfortable. And I’m not sure I’ve ever said this about pajamas before, but these are SO flattering and the patterns are just adorable! Megan and I are wearing the lemon zest pattern here, but I also got a pair with the floral ivory pattern which is equally cute! All of our pieces are part of the Cool Nights collection which was designed to keep your cool and comfortable for a cool night’s sleep, and if you’ve been following along on Instagram about my apartment heat debacle then you know I’m ALL about this!
So tell me…have you ever taken a girls trip in your 30s? Or even better have you ever taken a spontaneous girls trip in your 30s? And if you haven’t, did this post inspire you to book one?
