This first started off as a round up with my 12 favorite posts of the year, but I quickly realized there’s no way I could narrow it down so here I am with my 24 favorite & most popular posts from 2017 for you. And I probably should’ve posted this a few days ago like everyone else, but perfection takes time. But no seriously I really wanted to take my time picking out my favorites, writing captions and celebrating 2017 properly so it took a little more time than I planned, but I’m so glad a took it. On the blog 2018 is going to be more about writing posts with meaning, about interesting topics and that can hopefully add value to my reader’s lives so I knew the first one of the year had to be great!
My 24 Favorite & Most Popular Posts from 2017
2017 was all about embracing the boldness in my life AND putting out the highest quality posts. Quality over quantity when it comes to blog posts, and interacting with my followers when it comes to my social media channels. The best decision I made this year was probably working with a photographer. Working with Lisa not only made my content 1000x better, but I love how I’ve gotten the chance to shoot all around the county that I live in. So many of you have voiced that you love the direction that my outfit posts have gone and I couldn’t be happier that you noticed!
I can only hope that when I picking out my favorite posts from 2018 in 12 months it will be even harder than it was this year!
Scroll through and let me know if your favorite post of mine make the cut as one of my favorites!
How to Subtly Decorate with the Color Pink
This was my most popular post of the year, most pinned post (over ) and absolutely one of my favorites! You guys LOVE my decorating post as much as I love putting them together so get ready to see a lot more of them this year. I think with this post in particular I surprised a lot of people with how easy it is to add a pop of pink to your home no matter what your style is.
No Surprise, Faux Fur is IN at NYFW
This post was important to me because it really signified the start of my embracing the boldness. I’ve never been one to blend into a crowd. I’m loud, I wear bright colored lipstick, I have crazy hair and I constantly get told I’m intimidating, but there are times that my clothing doesn’t reflect that person and at NYFW you often say, “fuck it, I’m wearing it” and this right here is the start of that attitude. Throughout the year I’m not only curated the blog with posts reflecting this way of thinking, but I’ve adopted the attitude. My Instagram profile currently reads “has a love of all things bold & a fear of blending in” and it couldn’t be more true in every aspect of my life!
Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2017 Fashion Show Nails
I LOVE painting my nails crazy designs, but I have to admit that these posts are not my readers’ favorites! I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing fun and easy nail art tutorials, but if you noticed I started including step-by-step instructions to recreate my looks in my posts! Right now they’re step-by-step photos (which everyone is loving on Pinterest), but I’m thinking of possibly doing videos also! This recreation of the nails the model’s wore at Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring 2017 show was definitely my favorite nail art of the year!
7 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Spring
These light, airy, perfectly Spring photos are basically decor-porn and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Just tell me that photo isn’t perfect? You know you want to click through and see the rest…
Why You Should Wear Suede in Spring
I’m just going to call 2017 the year of the maxi skirt. Like I was saying above, I really curated my look over the year and this cool, yet whimsical look with bold touches was definitely one of my go-tos. Suede + a printed maxi + a pop of leopard + a dark lip…I’m all about it!
How to Make a Flower Crown
After making a flower crown (for the first time ever) for Megan’s baby shower (check it out here), I got SO many questions about it and compliments on it that I knew I had to do a post about it. I’m not really a DIYer (or not a very good one at least), but I was SO proud of how this came out! It’s SO easy and I can guarantee this won’t be the last time you see me wearing one or making one.
Why You Should Replace Your Lip Gloss with Lip Oil
Monochromatic makeup was kinda my thing this year and this orange on orange look was the start of it. The look with lightly shimmery eyes along with extremely glossy lips was a favorite over the summer. And if you haven’t switched over to lip oil (instead of lip gloss) yet then you definitely need to read this post…it’s a game changer!
True Life: I’m Addicted to Maxi Skirts
Look…another maxi skirt! I told you they were my favorite! I swear they just make you look so put together and pretty with barely any effort. This watercolor floral print was just right for the Summer! This skirt is still available here and I’ve linked a bunch more similar prints below. I’m definitely picking up another print for this Spring & Summer.
The 15 Best Tiled Bathrooms on Pinterest
This post not only was one of the most pinned posts of the year, but you guys clicked on the links in it a LOT! I wasn’t too sure if my readers would be onboard with tiled bathrooms, but boy was I wrong. You guys are just as obsessed as I am! I’d love to know if you’ve done a renovation recently that was inspired by one of these bathrooms!
The Best Shorts for a Pear Shaped Body
As I mentioned above, hiring a photographer and working with Lisa was one of the best decisions I made in 2017. Shooting outfit photos is HARD, and shooting outfit photos is even harder when you work full time. This look was the first outfit we ever shot together on a Sunday morning at 7am and I knew the second she showed me one of the photos I found the perfect photographer to work with.
I Love My Body, But I Don’t Always Like It
This was a tough one to write, but I’m so glad I did it. I don’t necessarily like my body all the time and I’m okay with that. Sharing these swimsuit photos (cellulite and all) was extremely intimidating, but I got such a great response and even if it touched one person who read it I’m glad that I put it out there.
I Don’t Care If You Think I Look Better Without Makeup On
I clearly was on a roll in the Summer of ’17 with the controversial post topics, but this one about makeup might be my favorite post I’ve ever written. I’m still so sick of people commenting on other people’s photos telling them they looked “so much better before they put makeup on”…newsflash THEY DON’T CARE! I doubt they would take the time to film an AMAZING in depth makeup tutorial to share with the world if they didn’t like wearing makeup. And it has nothing to do with what anyone else thinks…they’re not trying to impress anyone, they’re not doing it for anyone but themselves, so please save your breathe and move on. I doubt leaving a stupid comment on a video or photo is going to make your day any better.
9 Sofas That Will Make You Rethink Your Neutral Decor
Another hit on Pinterest (this photo in particular got over 5000 repins), and probably the post that made me want to redecorate my entire apartment. I’m all about colorful clothing and makeup (and even colorful hair), but I don’t think I was all about colorful furniture until I started putting together this post. Now I’m faced with the dilemma of being over inspired and want ALL the things and a house with enough rooms to make it happen!
The Dress You Won’t Regret Buying at the End of the Summer
My FAVORITE dress of the whole year. I never thought I would love a slip dress so much, but I’m obsessed. I swear I think I wore it once a week for the whole Summer and into the Fall. Plus this hat…I’m counting down the days until I can wear it again.
4 Affordable Halloween Costumes for You & Your Best Friend
Once again the BEST post of the year. I’m still patting myself and Megan on the back for this year’s costumes, but they were definitely the best ones we’ve ever done, this Rugrats one being our favorite. Be on the lookout for lots more BFF content coming at you this year!
Suede Isn’t a Trend, It’s a Staple
This suede jacket is another favorite purchase from the year. I picked up the olive version last year and this year added this spice color when it went onsale. I’m a huge fan of leather moto jackets so of course I would love all things suede!
It’s Halloween & I’ll Wear Black Lipstick If I Want To
I know black lipstick isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it and since it’s only acceptable for me to wear it one month out of the year I’m going to year it as much as humanly possible. This might have been my favorite Halloween-esque makeup look I’ve ever done!
30 Things You Might Not Know About Me in Honor of My 30th Birthday
This post was probably the hardest post I’ve ever written, but I hope you had as much fun reading it as I did pulling it together. Plus who doesn’t love a photoshoot with balloons as props…even if my hair looks like a complete wreck!
Holiday Must Have: The Metallic Pleated Skirt
ANOTHER freaking favorite post with Lisa! Not only was this a favorite because this metallic pleated skirt is literally the best thing ever…but we shot this at Untermyer Park, which is creepy and super cool at the same time. It’s a beyond gorgeous park in the city that I grew up in and a place that my grandma used to take me to when I was younger, but it’s also a super creepy eerie place that was the home to many cult meetings and Son of Sam spottings.
How to Decorate with Jewel Tones
I don’t have a favorite color, but if I got to choose a group of colors as my favorite they would definitely be jewel tones. If I ever got married my wedding colors would be jewel tones and in my next home you better believe its going to be decorated in all sorts of bold jewel tones after putting together this post!
Currently Obsessed with Embellished Jeans…Are You?
I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone with these embellished jeans and I’m SO glad I did (there’s still a couple pairs available here)! Are they the most flattering? Probably not. Are they the most fun? 100%! Plus this sweater was definitely in the top 5 most clicked items I’ve ever posts. I loved it so much I got it in two colors, and you guys loved it so much a crap load of you bought it and then tagged me in your photos wearing it (you have NO idea how happy that makes me!) It’s not available online anymore, but some stores are still carrying it! You can check the available close to you here!
How to Actually Wear the Color Pop Eyeshadow Trend
My first set of photos with my new hair PLUS the first set of photos I’ve ever taken with my ring light that I actually LIKE! I’ve had 2 ring lights forever, but I was never able to perfect actually taking makeup photos with them. They always came out too bright or dark or too weirdly colored so I eventually gave up. I don’t know what made me retry on a whim, but I’m glad I did. I can now shoot looks no matter what time of day it is, before I was relying on the perfect amount of light from the sliding glass door in my living room and now I have so much more freedom, which means expect LOTS more makeup!
The Festive Winter White Outfit You Need to Recreate
Not only is this Winter White look one of my favorite outfits of the year, but this shoot was one of my favorites. It was the last set of photos we took for the day and the amazing Fall foliage was definitely showing off! We couldn’t have planned a more perfect location! Plus I FINALLY found white jeans that I like. These Topshop jeans are definitely one of my best purchases of the year! I’ve included a bunch of styles of this particular pair right here for you to check out:
Monochromatic Makeup: How to Wear Red on Red for Christmas
Another monochromatic look with super glossy lips courtesy of lip oil. My favorite looks definitely have lots of similarities! And I’m especially obsessed with how my hair turned out here. Ever since I cut a good amount of it off it’s been super curly and I’m embracing it. My hair was extremely curly when I was younger and I hated it and now I’m doing everything in my power to get it back.
