As a self proclaimed maximalist color-aholic I’m probably the last person I though would be putting together a list filled with trendy brown nail designs, but after getting chic, brown manicures two years in a row during the fall season, I’m officially a brown nails lover and since you’ve stumbled on this post I’m sure you are too! There are so many brown colors, designs and varieties of top coats to choose from the options are endless.
I’m sharing my own brown nails and also 50 more brown nail ideas that should easily help you decide on your next manicure. Whether you’re looking for a bold statement with nail art, a brown chrome nail look, a rich dark brown manicure or something in between there’s something for everyone on this list.
Trendy Brown Nail Designs
My latest brown nails were a mix of different shades & intricate designs that came together for a fun set on my long almond nails. We started with a neutral base and made each nail design different. An animal print giraffe spotted tip, ombre French, cool 3D gold organic circle, brown flower and one tortoiseshell nail. I feel like it really showed off my personal style and they were the perfect nails for the month of November.

Chocolate Brown Nails
There is something so chic about an autumn season chocolate manicure and if you were convinced in the past then these photos will change your mind. Sometimes dark colors get a bad rap, but I think they exude a touch of glamour on both long or short nails and truly look so great! My favorite look is definitely a dark brown nail polish with an extra glossy top coat!
Brown Chrome Nails
If Hailey Bieber glazed donut nails are your thing, then you should give brown chrome nails a try! There are endless possibilities when it comes to colors. But my favorite manicures I’ve seen are cool toned medium shades with silver chrome on top. It’s so pretty and a fun twist on an otherwise classic brown color.
Brown Aura Nails
You guys know I love the aura nail trend, but all of the times I’ve tried it I gravitated towards bright, neon colors. Now that I’m seeing all of these gorgeous aura nails with darker shades I’m in love! My favorite version has to be cocoa aura nails with different shades of cool browns and a soft beige color in the center.
Brown French Tips
If you love the look of dark chocolate brown nails, but are more of a soft pastels kind of girl then I suggest going with brown French tips. French manicures are always a great way to try a color nail trend when you’re a little leery about it. Brown French manis are so elegant, effortless and chic. This works with either warms browns or cool browns depending on what look you’re going for and what the undertones of your skin are.
Tortoiseshell Nails
Tortoiseshell nails with glossy finishes have been on trend for so long at this point I think they’re a classic. There is something so classic about this subtle pattern that almost makes it a neutral. I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s like how tortoiseshell sunglasses feel like a neutral to me. The glossy amber accents and warm shades in today’s variations make them even more appealing. While I haven’t tried a tortoiseshell manicure yet, it’s definitely on my list of nail designs to get.
Brown Ombre Nails
Ombre nails are another excellent way to ease into the brown nail trend if you’re used to wearing lighter colors. You can customize the ombre with the right shades for you to make it as light or dark as you want. This is also an easy fall nail design you can achieve at home. Use a makeup sponge and a couple colors from your collection of brown polishes. An even easier way to an ombre manicure is by painting each nail in a different shade from lightest to darkest.
Mocha Cherry Nails
If your go-to shades during the fall and winter are bright reds then you’re doing to love mocha cherry polish. It’s the perfect mix of red and brown a chic color to try during the fall and winter. I know brown polish isn’t for everyone, but this deep cherry color is. It also looks so great on all skin tones.
Brown Cat Eye Nails
And last, but certainly not least my favorite design of all brown cat eye nails. I absolutely love all things cat eye and the variety of brown cat eye nails I’ve seen are making me fall more in love with the trend. I love how shiny the finish is and how the cat eye top coat changes the color of the polish depending on the light. You can also go the opposite route and add a matte top coat for a velvet like finish. It is the complete opposite of a sparkling cat eye look, but equally as cool.
