As a girl who loves edgy nail art I’m not sure why it took me so long to get checkerboard nails for myself! And now that I’ve gotten them it’s hard to get a similar design with different colors every single time I get my nails done.

Purple & Green Checkered Pattern Nails
There are so many ways to take this checkerboard design and make it your own too. Depending on your style you can make a bold statement with fun colors, just a touch of funky nail art with a checkered French tip or accent nail or even a more minimal look by recreating this nail design with nude and white polish.
What I love about checkered pattern nails is that they look great on all nail lengths and shapes which isn’t always the case with nail designs. I’m personally partial to almond shaped long nails, but honestly I think I think my favorite length and shape for this particular nail design is short and square. I think it’s edgy and fun and fresh and when you see all the inspiration photos below you’ll understand why I love this design on short nails.
I got to a nail salon to get my nails done, but if you like to do your nails yourself these easy checkerboard nails are simple to recreate. All you need is at least 2 bottles of nail polish, a top coat, a thin nail art brush and a steady hand. And if you don’t think you can handle painting a checkerboard design then the perfect way to achieve this manicure at home is by using nail wraps.

Bring this mint and lilac checkered nail design as inspiration for your next salon appointment. If you do make sure to share it on social media and tag me! And if this extra design isn’t your thing I’ve rounded up 64 more checkerboard print nails to inspire your next manicure.

Mix & Match Checkered Nails
While I love manicures with the same design on every nail, I also love a combination of checkered nails and other unique designs. These manis are funky and groovy and just overall so fun. I guarantee you’ll have friends and strangers alike stopping you to ask to see your nails.
Common designs to pair with checkered nails are smiley faces, flowers, ying yangs, flames, lightning bolts and more. Whether you love a bold look with bright colors or a more muted or monochromatic look you can enjoy mix and match nails because they can pretty much be whatever you want.

Classic Black & White Checkerboard Nails
Checkered nails designs are edgier by nature and the black and white version of these nails are so chic and fun at the same time. And there are so many variations of a black and white checkerboard nail to choose from. You can opt for a standard black and white checkerboard design, you can alternate nails or hands with white or black combination with clear polish for a negative space design and so many other ideas that I can’t even begin to describe.

Muted Minimalist Checkered Pattern Nails
If you’re a nude polish girlie that’s looking to up her nail art game then a fun minimalist checkered pattern design is such a fun idea for your next manicure. There are so many different combinations with nude, white, black and brown polish that can create the perfect muted statement manicure.

Checkerboard Pattern Accent Nails
If you’re just dipping your toes, or nails in this scenario, into the world of nail art then you may be more comfortable with a checkerboard pattern accent nail instead of a full patterned manicure. You can keep your other nails one color or different colors. You can also add a colorful french tip to your other nails as a great way to continue the same color palette throughout your manicure.

Checkerboard French Manicure
French manicures are so chic and timeless, but sometimes you have to step outside of your nail comfort zone and try something different and checkerboard french tips are a fun, funky alternative to a classic.
