Spring has finally sprung in New York. Actually it’s only here in theory, because while it may technically be Spring, it’s snowed yesterday and is still feeling pretty frigid out. So while my style blogger mind may be dreaming of bare legs and sandals and dresses, my practical mind is still grabbing for faux fur and booties and lots of layers.
I don’t know about you, but it’s really hard for me to get dressed towards the end of a season or the beginning of a new season when the weather doesn’t quite reflect it yet. I’m bored of the previous season’s items, but the next season’s favorites aren’t quite appropriate to wear yet so I have to get a little creative with my closet. I know I’m not alone so today I’m sharing my favorite tips to excited by your own wardrobe!
4 Ways to get excited by your own wardrobe!
My first tip is to access your closet and try not to buy anything new (no matter how tempting those end of the season sales are)! Sometimes I forget about my favorite pieces just because they may have buried in the back of my closet. I reorganize and put all of my favorites in one spot so that they’re the first thing I reach for when I have “nothing” to wear.
Next, ignore that famous saying, “I have an irrational fear of wasting a good outfit on an insignificant day” and wear all your favorite pieces at least one more time before packing them away. It’s easy to get excited about your own wardrobe when you’re wearing your favorites. This coat and these booties are some of my favorite pieces from Winter so I know anytime I put them I’m instantly feeling good.
Utilize Pinterest and old photos for inspiration! I tend to look at old blog posts from seasons past for inspiration, but even if you’re not a blogger you can just scroll through old photos on your iPhone. Sometimes I forget about some of my favorite go-to outfit combinations! I also love saving outfit inspiration photos on Pinterest created with similar items to pieces that I have in my closet. I love when I come across looks that I can recreate with items I already have!
Mix and match items from different seasons! This outfit is a perfect example of that! My coat and booties are clearly winter items, but my light wash distressed jeans are more suitable for Spring and Summer, but they work perfectly together! This outfit that I share on Instagram a few weeks ago is another example. While it may not seem like it’s a season mixing outfit, I actually layered my favorite black chenille sweater over a Summer dress (check it out here), and paired it with my ultra trendy metallic boots!
