Welcome to Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands and a destination that will leave you in awe. With a melting pot of rich history, diverse culture and natural beauty it’s no surprise that this Mediterranean gem has become one of the top tourist destinations in Europe, with over 10 million visitors annually!
In this ultimate travel guide I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about visiting Mallorca including what to do, where to stay, the best restaurants and things to eat and how to navigate plus insider tips. I’m also including my exact 7 day Mallorca itinerary to hopefully help you plan your trip!
Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or this is your first time abroad, Mallorca offers something for everyone!
Best Time to Visit Mallorca
In my opinion, the best time to visit most of the popular European summer travel destinations is shoulder season so April through June and September through early October. Not only is it a little less expensive, but its less crowded and not as hot as the summer months.
I visited Mallorca in the middle of September for my first time and thought it was PERFECT! There were still small crowds visiting the smaller towns, some reservations were hard to get and most hotels were full, but it was significantly less hot than it is in middle of the Summer during high season.
Honestly I couldn’t imagine visiting and doing everything I did during peak season when the temperatures were in the 100s like they were just a few weeks prior to me visiting.
Also worth noting Mallorca is a seasonal vacation destination and many of the hotels close for a few months during the winter. So while I’ve heard that people have a great time during the off season, just know not everything is open.
How Many Days Do You Need in Mallorca?
Mallorca is a big island and I think you need a minimum of 7 days to get a feel for it and see a good portion of it. But honestly you could easily spend 2 weeks in Mallorca if you wanted. There are so many picturesque villages and sandy beaches to explore you truly won’t run out of things to do.
I spent 8 days, 7 nights there on my first trip and there are so many things I didn’t get to see or do. So while a week in Mallorca is great and when you read my 7 day itinerary below you’ll see how much you can actually see in the days you’re there, you could easily spend more time!
If you can only spend a short time here I would still read through my Mallorca itinerary and plan on only staying in one hotel and picking the activities and villages most appealing to you. Don’t try and fit it too much.
How to Get to Mallorca
The easiest way to get to Mallorca is by plane. Most major European cities fly into the Palma airport, we flew into Madrid, Spain from the US and then took a quick flight from Madrid to Palma de Mallorca. There is also now a direct flight from Newark International Airport to Palma.
Fun Fact: Mallorca has become such a hot destination that Palma de Mallorca Airport is now the third largest airport in Spain because of the number of flights coming in and out.
You can also take the ferry to and from the port of Palma to get to mainland Spain and the neighboring Balearic islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.
How to Get Around Mallorca
The easiest and best way to get around Mallorca is by car! Unless you just plan on just visiting Palma (which I do not recommend doing), then I highly recommend renting a car because exploring the entire island is a MUST!
In general, Mallorca is very easy to navigate by car, even if you’re not familiar with driving in Spain or Europe. Roads are well maintained, signs were easy to understand, GPS navigation was easy to follow and parking was well marked and generally easy to find in each village and area.
There are many options as far as car rental companies right at the airport, so I recommend shopping around for the best price, BUT I highly recommend renting a small sized car. There are a lot of narrow streets and roads over the mountains and in and out of the villages are small with some hair pin turns so the smaller the car the better.
Also worth noting Palma had plenty of taxis available (and some Uber availability) so if you wanted to use a taxi or public transport during your time in Palma you can! We drove into Palma on the day we spent the entire day there and parked in a parking garage, and took a taxi to and from our hotel on the day we just had dinner in Palma.
Where to Stay in Mallorca
Ok this is a little bit of a hard question to answer because it truly depends on what type of trip you want to have, what activities you plan on doing, what villages are on your must visit list AND how long you plan on staying, so I’m going to break these suggestions into general areas on the island to hopefully help you make a decision, but truly any and all of these hotels are a great option.

Mallorca 7 Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Land in Mallorca, Get Rental Car and Spend day at hotel
Take an early flight into Palma in hopes you’ll land in Mallorca in the late morning or early afternoon. If you’re renting a car I recommend getting it directly from the airport like we did as the process was simple and quick and head directly to your first hotel.
We stayed at Grand Hotel Son Net for the first half of our time in Mallorca. It’s located in Puigpunyent on the foot of the mountains in the west part of the island and if you ever have the opportunity to stay here JUMP at the chance.
Whenever we book such a special and unique hotel (especially one on the more expensive side), we make sure to spend a day at the hotel to truly take advantage of everything the hotel has to offer.
We spent the first day adjusting to the time change, relaxing at the pool and having drinks and dinner on the property. Grand Hotel Son Net also has a vineyard on the property so we were able to do a tour of it along with a wine tasting.
Day 2 – Port de Sóller and Soller
Start your morning with breakfast at your hotel. We found that most hotels in Mallorca give you breakfast with your stay and if yours does I highly recommend taking advantage of the European spread.
This Mallorca itinerary is pretty packed and most of your days in Mallorca are fun, but long and include lots of walking so taking the time in the morning to eat breakfast before we hit the ground running was really important to us.
Plan to arrive in Port de Soller, one of the most beautiful seaside towns, for late morning or early afternoon to ensure that you get a parking space and spend the afternoon exploring this small coastal village. This quiet village is filled with shops, restaurants and bars along with a few hotels around the horseshoe shaped port. We spent the afternoon wandering around and shopping before getting an afternoon snack and drink before heading over to Soller.
Port de Soller and Soller are connected by it’s famous street tram so you can either take that to your second stop of the day, Soller, or drive there (we opted to drive so we didn’t have to take it back for our car later).
Soller, located just 3km inland from Port de Soller, is one of the most beautiful towns. The focus of the town is the Placa Constitucio which is home to the church of Sant Bartomeu (which originally dates back to 1236), Banco de Soller, a beautiful fountain and many cafes and shops.
Highly recommend making an early dinner reservation at Chez Junior, it is right in the town center of Soller and one of my favorite restaurants in all of Mallorca. Not only is the food amazing (it’s Mediterranean cuisine and focuses on local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients), but the entire dining experience was truly unforgettable.
Day 3 – Valdemossa and Deia
Head out after breakfast, you’ll want to arrive in Valdemossa before lunch because parking can be a little tough here, there aren’t as many lots as in Port de Soller or Soller, but we actually lucked out with street parking.
Valdemossa is truly a fairy tale village, most often considered the “prettiest” and “most beautiful” on the island and should be at the TOP of your Mallorca must visit list. It sits in the valley of the Tramuntana mountains and is one of the more picturesque, enchanting places I’ve ever visited. This mountain town is known for it’s rich history and heritage and preservation of local culture.
I recommend pairing Valdemossa and Deia together on the same day because they’re very close to each other and essentially you have to drive through Valdemossa to get to Deia. Plan on spending a little more time in Valdemossa then Deia, because it is much larger.
Deia is a another fairytale village (they all are just so dreamy) and often referred to as the “village of the artists” because of the sheer volume of famous artists, literary residents and musicians that live there.
Parking in Deia can be quite a challenge since it is a very small village, but if you make a reservation for dinner or drinks at La Residencia then you can park in their parking lot. La Residencia is one of the most magical hotels in all of Mallorca, but it’s expensive and not in many people’s budgets so visiting their property for drinks or a meal is a great way to experience it. And in my opinion the best views of the village are from La Residencia.
We had sunset drinks on the terrace at Restaurante Miro and dinner at Tramuntana Grill, but if you’re looking for a TRULY special dining experience El Olivo’s tasting menu is a culinary experience.
If you want to spend more time in Deia I highly recommend heading down to Cala Deia, a tiny secluded cove beach with crystal clear water and two cliff-side restaurants. It’s considered one of the best beaches in Mallorca and if you’re up for the 25 minute walk down to it from the village it’s worth it!
Day 4 – Explore east side of island
Check out of your first hotel and head east. The east coast of Mallorca is known for it’s picturesque beaches, secluded coves and inland towns, it’s much less developed than the west side of the island and it’s overall more relaxed.
Pollenca, Alcudia, Calo des Moro, Cala S’Almunia, Cala Rajtada, Porto Cristo, Cala Millor, Cala Figuera and Porto Colom are all towns on the east coast of Mallorca I wish we had time to visit and I highly adding one or two to your list of places to explore. When I visit Mallorca again I definitely would spend more time on the east coast. If you’re on the hunt for the most beautiful beaches with rocks and cliff jumping the east coast is a great place for you to explore more of.
Check into your second hotel either closer to the east side of the island or close to Palma. We stayed at Zel Mallorca in Palmanova just west of Palma because we thought we would want to beach resort for a portion of the trip, but after experiencing it I can say that while it was beautiful view to wake up to every morning, it isn’t 100% necessary and I would definitely stay east of Palma if I could do it again!
Day 5 – Palma
Spend the day exploring Palma, Mallorca’s capital city and largest city. I feel like most people associate Mallorca with Palma and end up spending all of their time there, and while it was amazing and I highly recommend taking one of your full days to explore the city, especially if it is your first time in Mallorca, you truly don’t need more than one full day to see it all.
Palma’s main attractions include the massive Santa Maria cathedral overlooking the Bay of Palma and the Almudaina, which is a Moorish-style Arab fortress that is now one of the official residences of the Spanish royal family. Other things to do in Palma include exploring the Old Town, Mayor Plaza, Bellver Castle, Passeig del Born and the Santa Catalina neighborhood.
There are amazing restaurants all over the city, but a few places I highly recommend are Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden for pre-dinner drinks in their garden, OMBU Paseo del Borne or Vandal for dinner (the dishes at both places were unreal), and Bar Abaco for cocktails!
Day 6 – Beach Club
Mallorca is obviously known for their beaches so penciling in some beach time is obviously a must when visiting Mallorca! We opted to do a beach club because we didn’t want to worry about anything and I can’t recommend it enough. We booked at Balneario Illetas, a beach club featuring a restaurant, beach bar, wellness area, sunbeds, hammocks and more for a reasonable price! Make sure to reserve your sunbed in advance because it does get booked, but overall we were really impressed and thought it was the perfect place to spend the day relaxing.
If beach clubs aren’t really your thing I suggest spending the day exploring some of the more secluded beaches on the west coast. If you pick a few villages close to each other you should be able to visit 2 or 3 beaches in one day.
And if beach clubs ARE you thing and you’re looking for something a little more lively and Ibiza like there are also plenty of beach clubs like that sprinkled around Mallorca especially near Palma.
Day 7 – Boat Day
A boat day in Mallorca is an absolute must! We booked a 4 hour catamaran trip with Sail4Fun and it was one of the best things we did on our trip! We left out of Santa Ponca on the west coast and sailed north along the coast to Es Camp de Mar. We hugged the coast during the trip so we were able to see all the gorgeous houses and hotels and also the amazing limestone rock formations and mountains in the distance.
Once we made it to the cove at Es Camp de Mar we anchored for an hour or so in the most turquoise waters I’ve ever seen in my life. We were able to jump off the boat, go swimming or just float around. There were plenty of rafts and snorkeling gear for all of us to use.
After swimming the crew on the boat provided a spread of Spanish tapas for us to snack on. There were also drinks available to purchase throughout the cruise.
We sailed with a group of about 12 people, but Sail4Fun is also available to book private tours if you have a large group of your own or would prefer to not sail with people you don’t know!
The only thing I would do differently is book an 8 hour trip instead of a 4 hour one because we could’ve stayed on that boat all day! The crystal clear blue water in Mallorca is absolutely spectacular and you’re going to want to spend as much time as you can on it!
Other things to know when visiting Mallorca for the first time (or any time):
- Pack shoes that are comfortable and with a grip. Remember most of these small villages are filled with slippery and uneven cobblestone and tile.
- Plan on keeping one or two hotels as your home bases and taking day trips around to all the small villages and secluded beaches, it’s must easier than checking in and out of hotels ever day.
- If you’re visiting in the summer don’t overestimate the heat, it’s brutal! Make sure to have plenty of water and sunscreen on hand.
- While beaches and water activities are a huge part of visiting Mallorca make sure you pack more than swimsuits and cover ups.
Have I convinced you to book a trip to Mallorca yet? This stunning island has endless opportunities for both relaxation and adventure and by following this 7-day Mallorca itinerary I hope you can create the same unforgettable memories that I did.
From enjoying the most delicious food to exploring the most stunning beaches this itinerary is packed with the perfect balance of culture, relaxation and fun – 3 things I always want to have on any trip I take.
