Let’s talk about suede! Suede is a type of leather with a fuzzy, napped finish, commonly used for jackets, shoes, fabrics, purses, furniture and other items. It’s softer, thinner and not as strong as full-grain traditional leather. Despite its smooth appearance it’s actually a very durable and tough fabric. And since it’s a form of leather it’s long-lasting. Suede might actually be my favorite fabric because it’s extremely versatile and softens just about every look in my opinion!
Now let’s talk about the best times to wear suede! Suede does have a fall feeling to it there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be worn during every season – especially Spring!!
Why You Should Wear Suede in Spring
Suede was, and pretty much has always been, one of the biggest trends for Fall and Winter. And I’m here to remind you with this outfit that suede shouldn’t go anywhere for Spring!
This BLANKNYC suede moto jacket has been one of my best purchases of all time. And I’m so glad that I’m able to make it work season after season.
Truth be told I’ve had MULTIPLE lighter-weight suede jackets in my closet for many years and they continue to be some of the most worn items I own! Suede is timeless and if you keep to classic silhouettes you’re guaranteed to have the pieces in your closet forever!
The weather in New York has been crazy and while I’m desperate to wear all my warm-weather favorites, most days it isn’t quite warm enough yet. This white camisole and maxi skirt combo is one of my favorite outfits for Spring and Summer, but since I can’t wear it on it’s own yet this suede jacket was the perfect addition making it the perfect early Spring transitional outfit.
And moto jackets are just one way to wear suede in Spring.
I wouldn’t pack away your suede skirts (especially minis) and suede handbags just yet either. When paired with light airy fabrics like I did here, suede skirts and bags are perfect for Spring and even Summer!
Another suede item I personally can’t wait to break out are my platform suede sandals!
They are the ultimate 70s inspired Spring shoe, yet can be styled with pretty much anything. Platform suede shoes and platform shoes in general are making a HUGE comeback. And I couldn’t be happier about the trend coming back! Even though suede is considered more of a Winter fabric when it comes to suede boots and shoes I tend to reserve them for Spring and Fall so that the bad weather during the Winter and salt on the ground doesn’t ruin them.
February NYFW really got me excited for Spring fashion, the runway fashion was super eye catching and everything I saw was luxe and rich with lots of texture and I can’t wait. Plus the street style was all really wearable and inspiring for real life outfits!
Are you just as excited about incorporating suede into your spring wardrobe as I am? Here are a couple Spring suede items I’m eyeing for my closet:
