Sorry guys this Before & After Bedroom post took a lot longer than anticipated because it’s SO had to get good photos of my bedroom because I don’t have the best light in there and my camera is in DESPERATE need of a cleaning, but finally got some decent ones and I’m SO excited to share!
While the “before” photos of my bedroom aren’t too bad, I think the “after” ones show you you can turn any space into exactly what you want with a little bit of imagination. My feminine chic bedroom is almost the polar opposite of my modern kitchen and bold boho bathroom, but it’s exactly what I imagined it to be.
BEFORE
Unlike the kitchen and the bathroom in my apartment, my bedroom actually wasn’t in bad shape when I bought my apartment! One of the selling points of my apartment was the fact that the bedroom space was huge and that there were 2 closets in it, but there was no lighting (and cement ceilings like the rest of the apartment) and floor to ceiling closet doors that needed to be fixed.
You could tell the prior owner tried to update the space a little by adding new doors and a closet unit, but I was redoing everything else and was planing on redesigning those too.
STAGE 1
We removed the trim throughout the entire room (and apartment), the closet built-ins and all doors. I also marked out the new closet openings to accommodate for standard sized doors (not floor to ceiling) and the sliding barn door.
STAGE 2
The new closet openings were framed with sheetrock so that normal closet doors could fit. We also framed ceiling beams with sheetrock to hide the cement lines and also so that wires could be run for a ceiling fan and light.
stage 3
We skimmed and taped the entire room including new closet openings and ceiling beams. My new closet doors and trim around doors was also installed.
stage 4
I already picked out my flower mural wallpaper so I was looking for a subtle pink color to compliment that for the rest of the walls of my bedroom, but choosing a paint color was a LOT harder than I thought it would be. First off the natural lighting in my entire apartment is AWFUL, my bedroom being the worst room, so all of the colors I thought I would like ended up being way too pink once I got the swatches in my space. Once I thought I got a few barely there pink colors rounded up, I painted swatches in the space and they STILL ended up being too pink.
After about 2 weeks, lots of swatch painting and checking what the colors looked like during different times of day I finally decided on Benjamin Moore Vintage Taupe. While it definitely didn’t look pink when I was picking it out, it was exactly what I wanted once I painted.

Stage 5
Install flooring, door handles on closet, barn door, shelving inside closets and bedroom door. My wallpaper was also installed! If you’re planning on adding wallpaper to your space I HIGHLY recommend getting a professional installer, especially if you live in an older house or apartment where the floor/ceiling isn’t necessarily level.
AFTER
I’m not going to lie, my feminine chic bedroom is NOT done. I’m still looking for the perfect bedside lamp and end table decor and I want to swap out the knobs on my vanity, but most importantly I’m patiently waiting for the comforter I want to go on sale. I’ve changed my bedding 3 times since moving in (here & here are the 2 other), but I’m still not happy with how it looks, so I hope the new one I’m eyeing is IT!

Well done!!! The space seemed a bit small during the works (work-in-progress pics) but your team did a great job! Everything is so neat and… that sliding wooden door? A brilliant touch!
Stay safe and xoxo
The wallpaper makes it seem SO much bigger! Thank you!
Wonderful transformation! I was wondering if you could share the manufacturer and model of the 3 light glass door you used as an entry door. Thank you.
It’s from King Lumber =)
