Who doesn’t love a good pair of boots? As a New York girl boots are ESSENTIAL to my wardrobe and I don’t see that changing anytime soon! A good pair of boots is timeless and versatile and can be styled SO many different ways.
EVERYONE needs at least one pair in their closet. But everyone doesn’t have them because up until recently if you had wide calves it was virtually impossible to find boots that fit! I’ve been blessed with larger, dancer calves my entire life and have been disappointed with the options available for wider calves for YEARS.
Not only are the options scarce, but so are the sizes AND my biggest problem that I have with most brands that offer wide calf boots is that the selection is SO UGLY!!! I’ve made it my mission to find all the best, most stylish wide calf boots – I’m talking riding boots, high heeled boots, cowboy boots, over the knee boots, etc. – and if you follow me on Instagram then you know that I’m ALWAYS sharing my finds on stories!
But today I’ve FINALLY rounded up a list of where to buy wide calf boots plus my tips for finding the perfect pair for you so that you’ll be armed and ready when it’s time to shop for your next (or first) pair!
Where to Buy Wide Calf Boots
Naturalizer
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again and again and again so I hope you don’t get tired of hearing it. But Naturalizer has the BEST selection of wide calf boots.
In a largely non-inclusive world, Naturalizer truly is a game-changer in the wide calf boot industry offers an inclusive size range of tough-to-find sizes and widths! Naturalizer offers every single pair of their regular calf boots in a wide calf option AND a narrow calf option. They even offer all of their boots in a wide width! Also most of their shoes are available in sizes 4 through 12 which is a much larger range than other brands.
All of Naturalizer‘s boots are fashion-forward, yet classic, extremely comfortable, made of quality materials and moderately priced ringing in around $200. They’re my favorite for a reason and I can confidently say that I don’t see that changing anytime soon!
Vince Camuto
Vince Camuto is relatively new to the world of wide calf boots. But over the past few years the options they have offered are AMAZING and so on-trend! Like I mentioned above one of my biggest problems with wide calf boots is that a majority of them are HIDEOUS. While Vince Camuto doesn’t currently offer a huge variety of them, every single pair is pure perfection when it comes to style!
Vince Camuto spares no expense when it comes to designing wide calf boots. They are trendy and fashion-forward and I can’t recommend them enough. Since discovering that they made wide calf I’ve bought 3 pairs and am so impressed! I hope Vince Camuto continues to make wide calf options available and offers more every year!
Vince Camuto offers free shipping on all purchases over $50 & free returns at any DSW store!
ASOS
If you’re looking for ultra trendy, under $100 options then ASOS is for you! The UK company is committed to promoting a healthy body image and making a large range of sizes available on their site. So it’s no surprise to me that they have such a good selection of wide calf and wide fit boots.
ASOS offers wide calf boots from brands like Public Desire and Miss Selfridge along with their inhouse ASOS DESIGN brand. They are usually under $100 and while they may not last you forever, they are fun and on-trend. And most importantly will fit you!
Also don’t let ASOS being a UK brand scare you. In my experience, their shipping is SO fast and returns are free! Plus they’re always running a sale!
DuoBoots
Looking for the PERFECT boots that were basically made for you? Look no further than DuoBoots! They have created a unique calf sizing tool to ensure your new boots are literally the perfect fit. And are the only company in the world to offer their entire collection of boots in SEVEN calf sizes and nine shoe sizes!
All of their boots are handmade in Portugal from the highest quality leathers and materials. And as a direct-to consumer brand they provide you with unparalleled craftsmanship and value.
And I can attest to all of this! I have 2 pairs of DUO are they fit like a GLOVE and truly feel like they were made for me! While the price point is a little higher than the other options I’m sharing here (starting around $250 and going up), they’re worth every penny and I still wear mine well over 7 years since I first got them. (Check out this post featuring them!)
JustFab
JustFab is a membership shopping platform that offers wide calf and extra wide calf boots. Majority of their boots are under $75 and even less if you’re a VIP member.
I have one pair of JustFab boots and while I love them, they aren’t the best quality so while I wouldn’t expect a high end pair of boots when you shop here, but don’t dismiss them completely.
Nordstrom
No matter what time of year it is Nordstrom always has a good amount of wide calf boots available from brands like Vince Camuto (I got these this year and they are the BEST BOOTS EVER), Steve Madden, Franco Sarto and more.
Nordstrom offers free shipping & free returns to almost anyone where in the United States and if you need it fast they offer a buy online & pick up in store option if the item you’re looking for is available at a store near you.
Nordstrom will always be one of my go-to department stores because the Nordy Club Rewards are great! If you shop there a good amount it’s easy to rack up bonus notes that are essentially free money!
Macy’s
Macy’s is another department store that has a large selection of wide calf boots. One thing I will say about Macy’s offerings is that they aren’t quite as stylish as the options at other retailers. They have some great riding boots, but if you’re shopping for other styles I think you may have more luck at other places.
One great thing about Macy’s though is that they offer free shipping and free returns on all orders, so if you do purchase a pair that doesn’t fit you can easily swap it out for a better fitting boot.
DSW
DSW carries wide calf boots from brands like Nine West, Journee Collection, Jessica Simpson, Marc Fisher, Franco Sarto, Naturalizer (my favorite) and more! The perk of buying from DSW is that a majority of their items are discounted so you’ll be paying less than you would at another retailer.
DSW also carries some styles and brands that offer extra wide calf boots which are great if your calf measurements are larger than what would comfortably fit in a wide calf boot.
They have a VIP rewards program that lets you earn money back and gives you free shipping on all orders! DSW also offers free shipping on order over $75 if you’re not a VIP and free in-store returns for everyone!
Tips for Purchasing Wide Calf Boots
I know this post is primarily about where to buy wide calf boots, but tips for them them is equally as important!
Measure your calf prior to shopping online.
The proper way to measure is by taking a fabric measuring tape and measuring the widest part of your calf while you are sitting on a chair with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle. ALSO consider wearing a pair a jeans when you measure yourself (and when you’re trying on) to ensure that your boots will comfortably fit over jeans.
Avoid boots with zippers that don’t go all the way up.
This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine because there is truly nothing worse than finding the perfect pair of boots only to discover that they are SO hard to get on! I have a high instep and a little bit of a wide foot and zippers on boots that don’t go all the way from the ankle to the knee make it almost impossible for me to get my foot into. Also I find it so difficult to get my pants to not bunch up in the boot which makes them uncomfortable for me.
Look for boots with an elastic back panel.
This will ensure that the boots fit snug on your calf no matter what pants you’re wearing. They also tend to be a little more comfortable.
Try on boots with the socks you intend to wear them with.
More than likely you’re going to be wearing these boots in the colder months and you’re going to want to wear an actual sock with them for added warmth and comfort so make sure that when you’re shopping you try on boots with socks and that they’re loose enough around the ankles to walk comfortably and that you can zip them all the way up.
