I’m 29 years old and I have just now found the perfect black blazer. Yes, I’ve had a few black blazers hang in my closet throughout the years, but all they did was hang in my closet because I hated them. I hated them so much that I just thought I wasn’t a blazer girl. My style is the farthest thing from preppy, and I would consider myself more edgy and eclectic so I just thought my love for moto jackets replaced my need for a blazer. And since I don’t work in an office where I’m required to “dress up” finding the perfect blazer for me was the farthest thing on my mind until I found this one from Lafayette 148, and now I want to help you! Scroll down for my tips on how to find the perfect black blazer and see how I casually styled mine!
My tips to find the perfect black blazer:
- Look for classic styles. I highly suggest not buying anything too trendy, anything with embellishments, or anything that can make your blazer look cheap. I love that this blazer has 2 strings on the front that can be worn open or tied in a bow, its a fun details that fits the classic, timeless look I was going for.
- Try on a LOT of styles before finding the perfect fit for you. I also thought a very fitted blazer was the way to go, but considering my closet full of black blazers that I never wore, this couldn’t be more true for me. A more relaxed, slightly longer style like this one from Lafayette 148 that can be dressed up or dressed down is the most practical for me.
- Since a black blazer is a closet essential, don’t feel guilty about spending a little more on the perfect piece. I’m a firm believer to not spend a lot on trendy items, but to invest in staples that will never go out of style and a great black blazer is definitely one of those staples. This particular blazer is definitely an investment, but if I added up all the money I spent on cheaper blazers that never got worn I guarantee it would be right around this amount.
Here’s a few black blazers at every price point that can hopefully help you start looking for your perfect fit!
