5 summers ago I published my first Capsule Wardrobe blog post and haven’t looked back since! Every season since I’ve put together an affordable capsule wardrobe to help you guys not only shop for the season, but also inspire you to get creative with what you may already have in your closet. his H&M Fall Capsule Wardrobe will show you how to pair items you might not have thought to wear together.
It’s so easy to get caught up in new trends and buying “all the things” especially if you follow a lot of influencers on social media, but really adding a just a few new versatile pieces to your closet each season and slowly building your ideal wardrobe (that you’re actually excited to wear) is what you should concentrate on!
That being said my H&M Fall Capsule Wardrobe consists of 25 items I think you should have in your closet, many of which you may already have, and why I think each of them is important, then I’m giving you 48 outfit ideas for how to pair these items together so hopefully you’re never stuck standing in front of your closet with “nothing to wear”!
We’re well into September and a temperature drop is on the horizon so it’s the perfect time to hone in on our personal style and access your closet to see what you already have and what you’re lacking!
H&M Fall Capsule Wardrobe Items:
1. Sweater Dress ($49.99)
Sweater dresses will never go out of style and this rib knit style is so chic and wearable. It’s an elevated basic that I guarantee will be on constant rotation in your closet.
2. Rib-Knit Mock Turtleneck Dress ($39.99)
I am COMPLETELY obsessed with this chic chocolate brown mock neck dress! It’s basic, but elevated and such a statement silhouette. It’s extremely versatile and I’ve included a ton of different ways to style it here.
3. Smocked-Detail Dress ($44.99)
Boho is BACK in a big way and this patterned maxi dress felt like the perfect addition to this Autumn capsule wardrobe for 2025. It’s bohemian, but with a western flare that is so on trend right now and can be dressed up or down for so many different outfits.
4. Satin Midi Skirt ($29.99)
If you follow me on Instagram then you know I posted last Fall about how I wasn’t sure how I felt about the midi slip skirt trend, but I’ve definitely warmed up to it! I’d styled mine with boots, sneakers, flats and heels and the styling options are endless! I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone with this trend because it definitely paid off.
5. Mini Skirt ($24.99)
Let me preface this by saying personally I’m not a mini skirt kinda girl, BUT short skirts are in again for Fall and I had to include one in this capsule wardrobe. This brown skirt can be dressed it up with knee high boots and tights or dressed down with sneakers. And while it might have been a little bit of a wild care additional to this Fall capsule wardrobe, the outfit combination possibilities are endless.
6. Fine-Knit Pants ($44.99)
Cozy season is upon us and loungewear isn’t going anywhere. As the cold weather approaches I’m sure you (like me) are going to be spending a lot more time indoors with comfy clothes on. Well no one said your comfy clothes couldn’t be cute! These dark brown knit pants are the perfect thing to wear around the house, but also can be worn out with sneakers or boots and a sweater!
7. Wide-Leg Dress Pants ($39.99)
Wide leg dress pants are not only for the office or dressed up occasions anymore. I love seeing these style pants and similar items dressed down with sneakers, t-shirts and sweatshirts. This plaid pair is surprisingly versatile if you draw inspiration from my capsule outfits below!
8. High Rise Wide Leg Jeans ($34.99)
Wide cut jeans have completely stolen my heart and I truly find myself grabbing for this style over any other style of jeans in my closet. If you haven’t added a pair to your wardrobe yet, let this be your sign to!
9. Wide Leg Twill Pants ($39.99)
Dressier pants are in, even if you don’t have an office to go to! Pair them with a crop top and fun sneakers for a casual look, a chunky sweater and boots for something in between, and dress them up with heels and a button-down shirt for the office! I included a cream pair over black because they are just so elevated and chic and will hopefully take you out of your comfort zone a bit!
10. Textured Knit Cardigan ($54.99)
This rich burgundy color was almost reason enough for me to include this cardigan in my capsule wardrobe, but the textured knit style and gold buttons truly sealed the deal. It is literally the perfect Fall sweater.
11. Patterned Blouse ($39.99)
Everyone needs at least one pretty chiffon blouse in their closet and this khaki green printed one is absolutely perfect!
12. Loose Fit Sweater (39.99)
I basically live in oversized sweaters during the colder months and this gorgeous beige one is my pick this year.
13. Lace Detail Camisole Top ($39.99)
This isn’t the first time this lace trimmed camisole has been featured in one of my capsule wardrobes and it won’t be the last. These tanks are so delicate and pretty and work with pretty much every other item in this capsule. Plus they’re great alternatives to basic tank tops, when you swap out a basic for one of these it adds instant polish to any look.
14. Fine-Knit Button Front Top ($14.99)
A long sleeve basic is essential in everyone’s Fall wardrobe (kids, adults, guys, girls, everyone!). It pairs perfect with sweats and jeans, but also works with a skirt for a more dressed up look. H&M’s basics are great for layering too, so if it gets really cold or you’re doing an outdoor activity you can layer this under a sweater for a non-bulky warm look.
15. Printed Sweatshirt ($24.99)
H&M makes the BEST basics – tanks, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts and of course that includes sweatshirts! This olive green color of these one immediately caught my eye.
16. Double Breasted Blazer ($49.99)
Truthfully I’ve just become a blazer girl over the past 2 years and now I’m obsessed. This double breasted chocolate brown one looks so chic and I love how oversized it is!
17. Wool Blend Coat ($219.99)
Depending on where you live Fall may or may not be “coat” weather, but in NY it definitely is. I’m partial to a longer length coat in a neutral color, and this dark brown one hits all the marks. If you live in a warmer climate a trench coat or barn jackets are a great alternative.
18. Knee High Boots ($74.99)
Sleek knee high boots are THE Fall shoe in my opinion and instantly elevate any look. You can pair them with dress pants, leggings, jeans, dresses, skirts…literally anything and look so polished. And this year I’m ALL about the snakeskin! If you want a pair that’s a little better quality I love Vince Camuto, Naturalizer (they make wide-calf) & Marc Fisher.
19. Chelsea Boots ($44.99)
A sleek Chelsea boot is definitely the cool girl shoe of the season and I love how it looks paired with everything from skirts to pants to dresses. And if you’re not a bootie girl, opt for classic mary janes!
20. Sneakers ($44.99)
I ALWAYS include a pair of sneakers in my capsule wardrobes and this season is no different. They go with everything and will keep even your casual outfits looking put together.
21. Beaded Necklace ($24.99)
Statement necklaces are back and while they may look a little different than the 2010 version I’m looking forward to bringing out all my bold chunky jewelry. This necklace is a great and affordable way to add the trend to your closet. It’s so chic and way more versatile than I could’ve ever imagined. I love a statement piece of jewelry so I’m so excited for this trend!
22. Textured Earrings ($12.99)
If you’re looking for a pair of elevated everyday earrings these textured gold ones are exactly it. Chic and look much more expensive than they are.
23. Pendant Earrings ($17.99)
These pendant earrings are one of the first H&M items I added to this capsule wardrobe list and I couldn’t be more obsessed with them.
24. Crossbody Bag ($39.99)
H&M really stepped up their accessory and bag game this Fall! This bag is literally perfect! The size is great for everyday and the color is gorgeous!
25. Shoulder Bag ($39.99)
I’m almost in disbelief that this bag is from H&M because I swear it looks designer! The shape is so chic and this bag in general is just perfect!
48 Fall Outfits Ideas:

3 Trends That You Should Invest In This Season:
- BOHEMIAN TOUCHES – The Stevie Nicks effect is real and boho is back in a big way. Think rich warm colors, patterns, oversized fits and layers. And if you’re just dipping your toes into bohemian fashion try pairing subtle boho elements with more modern things you already own.
- STATEMENT JEWERLY – Chunky statement jewelry is one of 2025s biggest trends and I’m SO here for it. Don’t get me wrong I love minimal jewelry (I just love all jewelry), but something about a chunky necklace or bracelets or large statement earrings with a layered outfit is just super chic!
- TEXTURE – While textured clothing isn’t necessarily a trend, it’s having a moment and combining different fabrics especially in rich colors will instantly elevated any look.
